Air India Crash: Dreamliner Tragedy Leaves 240+ Dead

On June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (Flight AI171) en route to London crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, slamming into a medical college hostel and killing more than 240 people (Air India Crash Kills 240+). The crash occurred during lunchtime, scattering flames and debris across the compound. Only one survivor, a British national seated near an emergency exit, has been confirmed.

Among the dead is former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The crash marks the first-ever fatal incident involving the 787-8 model and is India’s deadliest air disaster since 2020. A Mayday call was made (Air India Crash Kills 240+), and CCTV footage shows the plane igniting midair. Investigators are focusing on possible technical malfunctions, including landing gear failure. Authorities are using DNA to identify victims, and an international team—including Boeing, GE, and the FAA—is assisting in the investigation.
